Masking

Flash Tutorials, let's start with some easy ones.


You need to have Macromedia Flash MX 2004, or better, in order to do these Flash tutorials. I have endeavoured to simplify the instructions.

Motion Tween

  1. Select first frame, layer 1
  2. Draw or import image onto working area
  3. Select object and press F8, convert to a symbol, Name and select Graphic, OK
  4. Select frame 20, press F6
  5. Move your symbol to another spot on the page
  6. Select any frame between 1 and 19
  7. Select Motion from the tween pop up menu
  8. Press Ctrl+Enter

What happens when you select a shorter or longer timeframe?




Shape Tween

  1. Select first frame, layer 1
  2. Draw a circle on your working area
  3. Select frame 20, press F6
  4. Delete your circle, now draw a square
  5. Select any frame between 2 and 19, select Shape from the tween pop up menu
  6. Press Ctrl+Enter

Try different shapes and sizes and different coloured shapes.




Layers

  1. Create a shape tween on layer 1
  2. Single click on add new layer button
  3. Create a motion tween on layer 2
  4. Press Ctrl+Enter




Motion Guide

  1. Create a Graphic Symbol
  2. Name the layer as "Graphic"
  3. Right click on the "Graphic" label and select "Add Motion Guide"
  4. In this new layer, draw the path for your symbol to follow
  5. Select frame 50 of the Guide Layer, press F5
  6. Go to frame 1 of the "Graphic Layer", drag your symbol to the end of the path. The bubble should go right below the path.
  7. Go to frame 50 of "graphic layer", press F6
  8. Drag your symbol to other end of the path.
  9. Select any frame between 1 and 50 of your "graphic layer"
  10. Right click and select "motion tween" from the pop up menu
  11. Press Ctrl+Enter




Masking

  1. Have two layers
  2. Rename the top layer to "Mask" and the bottom layer to "background"
  3. Import your picture to the background layer
  4. Using Oval tool, draw a circle in your "Mask" layer.
  5. Drag the circle to one end of your picture.
  6. Go to frame 40 of your "Mask" layer, press F6
  7. Go to frame 40 of your "Background" layer, press F5
  8. Selecet frame 40 of your "Mask" layer, drag the circle to the other end of your picture.
  9. Go to frame 1 of your "Mask" layer, select shape tween in your properties window.
  10. Right click on the "Mask" layer and select Mask.
  11. Press Ctrl+Enter
